Delving into Stronghold Prison

Posted by Daeke

This week, your fearless community representatives: Rekhan, Stormshade, DBT and I took it upon ourselves to delve into the dangerous Stronghold Prison. Stronghold Prison is one of the many Lairs you’ll find throughout the world of Champions Online. Built for a 5-man team, these Lairs will push you to your limits, requiring steady teamwork, a keen eye, and excellent communication amongst all heroes. Read on to find out about our experiences in the prison.

Stronghold Prison is the location where Menton, the infamous psionic, has been kept for many years. Somehow, he managed to escape his cell and take control of the guards and prisoners within the Prison. It was our job to get inside, rescue Captain Miller, and defeat Menton once and for all. To aid us were members of the SPARC team, a group of guards with mental shields to prevent Menton from controlling them. As we entered the prison, we were greeted by Mitchellson, one of the SPARC team. She explained to us that we’d need to make our way through the prison, closing cell doors and defeating prisoners that had gotten loose in order to reach Captain Miller, and then we’d be able to make our way to the deepest part of the Prison to find Menton.

Taking Down the Prisoners

Along the way, we’d run past these big ugly machines that seemed to be broken. Mitchellson explained that these were mental suppressors, and that normally they’d be up, which would prevent the psionics from using their powers against the guards. We had some spare parts with us to fix the machines, and doing so would break any nearby mind-controlled guards out of their stupors to join our side again. Unfortunately, we only had a few spare parts, and we figured it’d be best to save them until the end, because who knew what Menton had planned for us?

No sweat

After we fought our way to Captain Miller, we led him to the elevators so that he could head out safely, and we worked our way further down to the lower levels of the prison. This time, we reached the main Cell Blocks: four blocks each housing hundreds of criminals. In order to get the elevator working again, we needed to find all four key cards, one from each block. We decided to save time by splitting up, which is always a bad idea, if horror films have taught us anything. Luckily, I found one key card in the pocket of a guard who has just been injured, while Rekhan defeated a mind-controlled guard and grabbed a key card off of him. Stormshade and DBT stuck together to slowly work their way across the cell blocks. Meanwhile, I got ambushed by Mind Slayer! With some help from the guards, I took her out and found another of the key cards, and with Stormshade and DBT’s last card, we got the elevator working again and took it down to the last level.

Community Wins Again!

Finally, we caught up with Menton, who had set up shop in a huge room underground, with the rest of the prisoners and guards he had under his control. Before heading toward him, we made a quick sweep around the room to fix any broken mind suppressors, ensuring we’d have less opposition when we went for Menton. After snapping the guards out of their trances, we headed for the Big Brain himself. Just as we reached him, he disappeared! Menton’s powers were much stronger than we expected: he was able to teleport around the room at will. And not only that, but he also created cloned copies of himself, which all came straight for us. It was a close call, but in the end, we put Menton down for the count, and reaped the rewards. Stronghold Prison was safe once again, thanks to the Community Team!
