Previously we opened the floor to questions from our players about the our upcoming Adventure Pack: The Serpent Lantern. Today, we're pleased to share with you the answers! Read on to find out if your question got answered!
Gandales: About the difficulty mode. I know there are bonus gear from bosses in hard mode instances. Is there any change in the loot tables in the non bosses mobs? like rising the chances of getting green and blue gear.
A: When you turn up the difficulty, all critters give better XP and Resources. Further, bosses in Serpent Lantern will drop items that have extra stats on them. If players like this approach, we'll do the same stat improvement magic on some critters throughout the world.
Heartless50: Will there be unique Costume drops too the ranking of mission your doing. Example, I'm fighting the White Rhino at max lvl of Difficultly slider. Could I suspect a drop or unlock of his head?
A: There are no plans to link costume drops to completing things on "hard mode."
[Update 9 Jun 2010: Whoops! I got this answer wrong. We won't do this very often, but will in special cases. Specifically, you will be able to get Therakiel's awesome wings by defeating him on the hardest difficulty level.]
Dardove: Will Blood Moon be turned on with the Serpent Lantern patch or do we have to wait longer?
A:Yes, currently Blood Moon is scheduled to turn on during the first full moon after the release of Serpent Lantern. We had hoped to get this in for the Super Power Pack so the May full moon would be Bloody, but it came in a bit late.
Mothers_Love: In the context of full sized zones akin to Canada or the desert that are much requested, my question is; " Will adventure packs based in a certain location mean we will not see those specific places from the Champions lore in the future as full-sized zones ? ".
A: Not at all. We've been choosing material for the Adventure Packs based on the stories we want to tell and what the players seem interested in. In the future, for example, you'll venture into Qliphoth and Multifaria. That wouldn't stop us from using those places in other Adventure Packs or as whole zones later on.
Blakerefuge: Roughly how long should we expect the adventure pack/QoL features "every other month" cycle to go on? It's a great short-term development strategy, but eventually the community will want another Revelation-sized update.
A: Starting with Serpent Lantern, we have a series of Adventure Packs scheduled to be released. Overall, we think this is what the game needs most right now, and what players will like. As time goes on, we'll continue to gauge interest in the packs as well as new features and zones. If demand calls for it, we'll change direction. For the time being, though, we're sticking to game-wide improvements.
Mr. Funsocks: Now that we have The Serpent Lantern to play with, what's the setting of next Adventure Pack going to be?
A: The next adventure pack will take players deep into the Qliphothic realm, facing off against Luther Black and his DEMON hordes. Black has found a way to open a portal to the Qliphothic Realm and unleash unspeakable horrors upon the world, starting with Millennium City.
Mr.Funsocks: What are the plans (timetable-wise) for the Nemesis System?
A: Well, an upcoming Adventure Pack will feature your Nemesis (as well as your teammates' Nemeses) as part of the story. As to any expansion of the Nemesis System, it's too early to give timetables on it.
Honeymane: "Many of the updates since the game's started seem to draw heavily on a "magic" aspect of the Champions/comic books universe. Will we see updates/adventure packs (etc) featuring any of the other "origins" like technology or science soon?"
A: The third adventure pack will touch upon technology, science and the whereabouts of Dr Destroyer!
Leatherhead: Energy builders: It was said that all energy builders were going to get a proc or bonus of some kind, When are those going to make it in?
A: Energy Builders are being updated with Serpent Lantern. They aren't getting procs, but they are being rebalanced a bit to bring them all more in line with each other.
Dardove: Will any other factions be getting an upgrade like the ones Viper is getting with the Serpent Lantern patch?
A: VIPER was the big one; it's used across the whole game and they needed a revamp. Other groups probably won't get big updates like that. That said, as we work with new Adventure Packs and just to overall improve the game, groups will be tweaked here and there to make them more interesting and fun.
Slipshod: In the upcoming Serpent Lantern patch, the Perk System will be seeing some changes. ... Star Trek Online's upcoming Accolade system highly resembles the Perk system, yet offers things like bonus resistances for acquiring certain Accolades(Perks.) Will CO be seeing an upgrade to their Perk System to make it as meaningful as the STO one?
A: STO and Champs are very different games. The flexibility in character creation that Champs has (and Trek does not have) means that earning passive powers through perks doesn't fit as well. Things like resistance bonuses have to be handled carefully in order to avoid balance issues. So for now, we're focusing on the powers and frameworks we have.
Kal85: With a lot of focus currently on pve content, is it realistic to expect some kind of update to pvp content (arenas/rewards) prior to the one year anniversary?
A: We have some ideas for new PvP content and it's on our list of things we'd like to do. However, it's too early to give a timetable on it.
